Communication

Tips for effective interpersonal communication. Do men and women speak the same language? How is our style of speaking perceived by others? What can we do to be better understood? Communication and language is fascinating. A bunch of letters are put together into words and sentences to convey thoughts…Wow!

Manly Communication Epiphany Is He Listening? Verbal Diarrhea Comments Don't Lie and Mental Telepathy Vile Language Weeds Olive You

Before you read my text exchange with my daughter, Alyssa, you need to know or remember a few bits of information…

  • Alyssa was at her boyfriend’s house and I was sitting at our home while we were texting each other. We text each other all the time.
  • When I talk about food upsetting my face, I’m referring to the reaction I get when I eat something with grain in it. When I eat anything with grain in it, my face breaks out, I get sick in my stomach and sometimes I get a headache.
  • Alyssa and I are becoming more and more health conscious, but every now and then we have to splurge. I guess that proves we are not quite total health nuts, but we are very conscious of everything we eat and use on our body.
  • We both drink lots of water and flavor it with all kinds of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, so we are building up quite a few water recipes.
  • Alyssa turned 21 years old last month which, as you well know, means that she can legally consume alcohol. Although I have never had a drop of it in my body, Alyssa has tried several kinds of alcoholic beverages. Personally, I do not want her to consume any because there are so many negatives about alcohol consumption although I’m sure my opinion isn’t very popular with most people. Since Alyssa tends to be obsessive-compulsive like me and because there are alcoholics in our family tree, I worry about alcoholism. I can’t help worrying about her well beling. Since I am her mother, I remind her of this fact every now and then in as non-preachy of a way as possible.
  • I know what Bella thinks and I can easily convey it in English. LOL
  • I’ve been eating sop chocolate since I was a little orange haired girl and have passed it down to my daughter. It is an old, old family recipe which will be in my cookbook along with my grain free bread recipe.

Lesson Learned

This is one more way Alyssa and I stay close and why we have unlimited text messaging.

Children need reminders and it is more likely to soak in and keep the lines of communication open if you do it in their language and in a non-preachy or overbearing way.

Obviously you can discuss heavy life topics right in the middle of chocolate texts.

Just saying.
