Overnight No-Cook Refrigerator Oatmeal Muesli 11

Whether you call it refrigerator oatmeal, summer porridge, cold oatmeal, no-cook oatmeal or yogurt oats, it is all really another name for muesli.

What Is Muesli?

In the 1900’s, a Swiss physician named Maximilian Bircher-Benner created a meal based on uncooked rolled oats, fruit and nuts for his patients that were in the hospital. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables was part of the requirements for his therapy, thus muesli was born.

Most of the time, muesli is eaten for breakfast, but in Switzerland and Germany it is also eaten as a light evening dish with buttered bread and coffee with milk. So muesli is a winning combination of great-tasting, good-for-you foods, and it includes whole-grain oats!

Muesli is great for health food and vegan diets, as well as everyone else!

Overnight No-Cook Refrigerator Oatmeal Muesli

We will start this recipe with one of my favorite pieces of kitchenware…a Mason jar. I used a quart jar and it gives me five breakfasts. If you are a more breakfast eater, you could put this recipe in two pint jars. That would let you grab and go if necessary too.

Add old fashioned rolled oats to the Mason jar. They will absorb everything better and give you a wonderful consistency.

Now add Greek yogurt to the Mason jar. If you only have regular yogurt, add that instead. If you hate yogurt, leave it out of the recipe. You could add a little more milk or even some whipping cream instead.

It doesn’t matter if you add 2 percent or whole milk, but that’s the next ingredient to add to the Mason jar.

Now stir all the ingredients really good. There won’t be a whole lot of stirring room after you add the next two ingredients, so it is best to get it well combined first. Add the peaches.

Now add the mango and stir again.

Last healthy ingredient to add to the Mason jar is slivered almonds. They will give a nice crunch to the Overnight No-Cook Refrigerator Oatmeal Muesli. I’m all into having a good texture, so the almonds just really make this deliciousness over the top!

It is time to give it a really good mixing stir.

Can you see the beautiful Overnight No-Cook Refrigerator Oatmeal Muesli through the glass of the Mason jar? I love the redness of the peach. It looks so pretty.

There isn’t really any mess to clean up. So when all the mixing was finished, I put it in the refrigerator so that the oats would soak up the milk and get soft.

As you can tell, I made a quart which was enough for five breakfasts. So Monday through Friday there was no rush in the morning to prepare breakfast. I don’t like rushing in the morning!
