Automobile for a family of six.

Cost of home mortgage or rent in relation with paycheck.

Turtle’s shell.

Bella’s water bowl.

What do all those things have in common?

Size.

Size matters.

Let me explain.

The size of the carton of ice cream is important to me because I do not want to run out. Sometimes ice cream is my meal.

The weight of a baby at birth is important because if the size of the baby is too big, the delivery may have to be Caesarian.

The size of the automobile for a family of six must be big enough to accommodate all six people.

The amount of money earned and paid each week should be big enough to pay the cost of the home mortgage or rent and still have enough for the rest of the necessities of life like food and clothing.

The size of Turtle’s shell can’t be too big or too small so that it fits his body since it is actually part of his body.

Th size of Bella’s water bowl must be big enough to hold the water she needs to stay hydrated, but not too big or she won’t be able to lean over it to drink because she is a very small dog.

Size matters and I’m going to discuss two basic size options when I think size can make all the difference.

Blogging Font Size Matters

As far as blogging goes, font size matters.

When I pull up a blog to read, I want to be able to SEE the words without struggling. Blogs that have crazy fonts that curl or slant crazy are pretty hard to read, but if you add a super small font to the mix, I’m totally turned off. I’m not going to stick around to try and read hieroglyphics and that’s how it feels when the font size is too small.

When programming a blog, if the body element is based on a percent size, then the rest of the fonts can be programmed using the em unit.

For instance, if you use the base body font size at 100 percent, then you can adjust the em unit with ease.

(body {font-size:100%; line-height:1.125em;}.bodytext p {font-size:0.875em;)

If you’re totally not into writing a blog and you just want to read a blog, what you care about is seeing the words with ease.

Small font can be difficult to read.

Regular font is just regular sized font.

Large font is easy on the eyes especially when you start to age.

Super large font gets your attention.

Obviously, font size matters and is one of my pet peeves.

Portion Size Matters

I’m the first to say that food is a wonderful thing and I don’t like being hungry.

However, and that’s a BIG however…

Continual gluttony aggravates me because it shows a lack of control.

DEFINITION of GLUTTONY: excess in eating or drinking; greedy or excessive indulgence

Do you know the proper portion size for foods on your plate?

Do you know how much food it actually takes to satisfy the requirements for your body?

Do you overeat at each meal?

Are you overweight and therefore, your health is suffering?

Here’s the correct portion size for a few foods using a comparison to the size of common objects:

- One serving of meat or poultry should be no larger than the palm of your hand or a deck of cards.

– One 3-ounce serving of fish is about the size of a checkbook.

– One-half cup of ice cream is about the size of a tennis ball.

– One serving of cheese is about the size of six dice.

– One-half cup of cooked rice, pasta, or snacks such as chips or pretzels is about the size of a rounded handful or a tennis ball.

– One serving of a pancake or waffle is the width of a compact disc.

– Two tablespoons of peanut butter is about the size of a ping-pong ball.

– One cup of chopped raw fruits or vegetables is about the size of a woman’s fist or a baseball.

– One medium apple or orange is about the size of a tennis ball.

How did you do?

I will be the first to say that half a cup of ice cream is simply just not enough, but in reality, it IS enough!

The size of the portions that we are eating are too big and that is why the people of the United States are known as the country filled with obese people. Our health is suffering because of all the added weight. Being obese can cause the following:

  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Stroke
  • Heart disease
  • Abnormal Blood Fats
  • Cancer
  • Gallstones
  • Gout
  • Osteoarthritis of weight-bearing joints
  • Sleep apnea/Respiratory problems
  • Gastroesophageal reflux/Heartburn
  • Depression
  • Infertility
  • Urinary stress incontinence
  • Menstrual irregularities

Ugh!

Portion control will really help with the obesity problem in our country.

Size Matters

Apparently size matters when it pertains to font size and portion size for food on your plate at a meal. Controlling the size of those two things will either keep your eyes happy or keep the rest of your body happy.

It all boils down to better health practices.

Be honest. Did you read all the way to the end of the post just to see if I was going to say something about a male or female body part?

Seriously?

Me?

Maybe if you were sitting here in my living room, but not on my blog! (wink)
