What Is A Cookie - HTTP, Web, Browser Or Chocolate Chip Cookie

What Is A Cookie?

A cookie, grammatically speaking, is a noun and pronounced \ˈku̇-kÄ“\

The first definition of cookie that comes to my mind is a small, flat or slightly raised cake, usually sweet and eaten as dessert unless the person has very little self-control and eats cookies before meals or in lieu of a meal. Not that I know anyone like that, but I thought I would just throw it out there (smile)

The Redhead Riter's Chocolate Chip Cookie

Moving right on to the next definition. Cookie can also be a guy or person such as, "The high school valedictorian is one smart cookie and already started his own computer programming company." Cookie can also mean an attractive woman. We could use it in a sentence like, "Gina Lollobrigida, a buxom Italian cookie, was an iconic sex symbol in the 1950's. Gina co-starred with Yul Brynner in Solomon and Sheba in 1959."

Gina Lollobridida

However, there is a third definition of cookie that I wanted to tell you about today. If you use the internet, chances are you have heard of cookies in the context of your computer usage. This type of cookie is also known as an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie. A cookie is a small file or part of a file containing personal information and is stored on the computer. This cookie is read by the browser and can be used to:
  • identify how a user initially got to the website
  • record the website pages visited
  • identification of a user session
  • to keep a user's customized preferences in order to show relevant content in the future
  • store shopping cart contents
  • authenticate the user
  • anything else that is accomplished by storing text data
So when you shop online or visit a site with advertising banners, cookies about your visit are sent to the original site (the company that owns the banners). They use this information to determine how often their banner is seen or products are viewed. Those are just a couple of examples of when cookies are collected.

3rd party banner collecting cookies

Now that Web browser cookies are no longer a mystery, I am going to enjoy one of those flat, sweet dessert type of cookies. I will think of you while I enjoy them.

Fleeting thoughts count.

Saturday Stalker - Etsy Pantone

I am not quite at the point where I should be turned in to the television show, "How Do I Look?" but don't ask my daughter if she agrees with me. I do not usually keep up with the "it" colors in fashion because I like what I like and that is what I will wear. But just for curiosity's sake, have you ever wondered who determines "the colors" for the season? I have never taken the time to investigate the answer to that question until today...
Pantone LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of X-Rite, Incorporated, is the world-renowned authority on color. For more than 45 years, Pantone has been inspiring design professionals with products, services and leading technology for the colorful exploration and expression of creativity.

In 1963, Lawrence Herbert, Pantone's founder, created an innovative system for identifying, matching and communicating colors to solve the problems associated with producing accurate color matches in the graphic arts community. His insight that the spectrum is seen and interpreted differently by each individual led to the innovation of the PANTONE® MATCHING SYSTEM®, a book of standardized color in fan format.

Pantone has since expanded its color matching system concept to other color-critical industries, including digital technology, fashion, home, plastics, architecture and contract interiors, and paint.
The Fall 2011 colors for men and women are actually quite rich and being touted as "Sensible and Spirited" with "sepia tones of old Hollywood, Chinese opera, cityscapes and countryside" and there is not much variation between the two genders...

This weekend the Saturday Stalker went strolling through the homemade items of Etsy vendors where I am always amazed at the abundance of talented people. I searched for items with the new Fall 2011 shades and obviously did not have any trouble finding products.

My favorite color for Fall 2011 is the cadet blue with cedar coming in second.

So what did you think about all the new colors and which are your favorites?

Give Me A Doughnut And I'm All Yours

We all know that supposedly the way to a man's heart is through his stomach while women are dazzled with roses, chocolate and diamonds. If those were the only facts to base gender upon, I would be a man and you know I am not a man. Well, you do not "know" that I am a woman, but you are just going to have to take my word for it because I am not exposing any body parts on my blog.

I do love food...

I love cooking food.

I love touching food.

I love eating food.

I love smelling food.

I prefer healthy food and I do not overeat because I do not like that too full feeling. I am not super picky about my food either, so I am rather easy to please. Actually, as I have gotten older, I am rather easy to please with just about everything. I don't require that much to make me happy.

There is one food that will immediately make me happy and your best friend, humble servant, doting caretaker, window washer or anything else you want me to be!

Yes, Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnuts are my ultimate weakness.

At any given moment, I am ready to eat a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Just typing the words now have my senses so aware that I think I smell Krispy Kreme doughnuts which is impossible because the store is thirty minutes away.

I am sure you have seen cartoons where the Devil is sitting on one shoulder and an angel is sitting on the other shoulder of a person that is trying to make a choice. It is a visual representation of the battle between good and evil. Both cartoons are trying to sway the person to make a choice and the options are completely opposite in nature.

I think when a Krispy Kreme doughnut is placed before me, the Devil on my shoulder throws the angel in a bag and locks it in a trunk in the basement. There is just no way I will refuse a doughnut.

The strong craving for Krispy Kreme doughnuts must be inherited because my daughter feels it too. When we both just can't stand being deprived one more moment, we drive all the way to the store. Of course, we have to wait until after 11:00 pm because that is when the new, fresh doughnuts come off the line.

Krispy Kreme makes it very easy to satisfy the craving because they also installed a drive-thru window. So we pull up to the little microphone and it goes something like this:

"I would like 1 dozen glazed, 1 dozen chocolate glazed, a carton of milk and a water. That's all."

Alyssa and I can barely speak because we are trembling with anticipation and our mouths have started salivating ten times as much as usual.

"Please pull forward to the window," the Krispy Kreme cashier says.

Alyssa drives up to the window.

I hand her the money to give the Krispy Kreme worker.

They take the money, give us change and hand us the drinks.

Then the Krispy Kreme worker hands Alyssa two boxes of HOT doughnuts, a straw and napkins.

Alyssa drives the car into a parking space.

She proceeds to eat about 3 or 4 Krispy Kreme chocolate glazed doughnuts.

Meanwhile, my hands are trembling so badly that I can't hardly get the box open, but when I do, the sweet aroma fills the car. I feel like I have won millions of dollars in the lottery.

I pick up a Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut and it sags because it is so fresh and hot. Each bite of the doughnut melts into an explosion of happiness in my mouth. Sugar is on my lips and I barely have time to lick them before I begin eating another doughnut. After my eighth Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut (don't judge me), I begin to feel very drowsy. Although I have consumed far too much sugar, I am euphoric and I drift into a peaceful slumber while Alyssa drives us back home.

Between the optimist and the pessimist,
the difference is droll.
The optimist sees the doughnut;
the pessimist the hole!
~Oscar Wilde~

That, my dear friends, is how someone acts when they are obsessed. Can you blame me? Look at the doughnut below...Do you see the way the sugar dents where the two doughnuts are touching?

It is beautiful!

Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts are the best tasting food ever created.

Why, oh why does Alyssa have to already be asleep in the bed!!!!

I am going to have to go to sleep with visions of doughnuts dancing in my head!

How evil would I be if I "accidentally on purpose" woke up my child from a sound sleep so that we could make a run to Krispy Kreme?

She would not forgive me.

Shrimp Fajita Wrap Recipe - Light, Fresh and Healthy

Succulent shrimp oozing with sauce, surrounded by fresh garden vegetables and tucked snugly within a tortilla fajita wrap. This is a tasty, colorful meal worth repeating time and time again. Do you know what makes it even better? Preparing the shrimp fajita wraps is fun, easy and quick!

Shrimp Fajita Wrap Recipe - Light, Fresh and Healthy

We are going to prepare the vegetables first
and then cook them.
First up....Onions.
Where would we be without onions?
Cut both ends off the onion,
peel, cut in half and then slice it.

Next...Garlic.
Separate the garlic clove from the head of garlic.
Put it under the blade of the knife and
hit the blade with the base of the palm of your hand.

This will immediately separate and release the skin
of the garlic from the actual clove.

Then we have to chop the garlic into small pieces.

You only have to do this whole procedure for
15 garlic cloves.
Yes, that is a whole bunch,
but they are SO VERY DELICIOUS.

The next item on the cutting board is bell peppers.
Don't you think they look tiny?
If you said, "Yes," you are right!
These bell peppers are very small.
Why did I buy very small bell peppers?
Alyssa picked them out and when I got home
and started preparing them for the
shrimp fajita wraps,
I discovered that....
.

the tiny bell peppers do not have seeds!
I don't know about you,
but it was so nice not having to clean out all those tiny little seeds
After cutting all of them open,
they were then cut into strips about the same width as the onions.

Add the olive oil to the pan and
then add a layer of the onion slices.

On top of the onion slices,
add the chopped garlic.

Now add the layer of bell peppers to the pan.

Sprinkle everything generously with salt.
I love salt.

Now add slices of lemons.
If you love, love the taste of lemons,
slice 2 lemons.
If you do not want a strong lemon flavor,
only use 1/2 a lemon sliced.
Obviously, I love lemons and
they are really good for the body,
Now turn on the heat and let everything
start to cook down and turn light brown.
.

By now, the shrimp are thawed and ready to use.
After rinsing the shrimp under cold water,
pull off all the tails.

When all the vegetables have turned brown,
add the shrimp to the pan.

Time to add seasoning!
Sprinkle all of the following spices over the shrimp:
Parsley
Basil
Thyme
Oregano
Paprika
Cayenne Pepper
Coriander
Cumin
Dry Mustard
Rosemary
Old Bay Seasoning

Mix the spice covered shrimp with the vegetables.
The goal is to JUST warm the shrimp because
they are already cooked
If you cook them too long, the meat will be tough
as an old leather shoe.

Add the cocktail sauce to the pan
and mix it with the shrimp and vegetables.
The best way to test to see if the shrimp have been
heated all the way through is to eat one
or maybe two
or even three.
They ARE not that big and I'm hungry.

Now it is time to make the wraps.

I like to warm the tortilla wraps in the mircrowave.
Wet a paper towel and squeeze it out completely.
Lay the wraps on a dry paper towel in the mircrowave
and cover with the damp paper towel.
Now let it warm for a minute or two.
The amount of time to heat is determined by
how hot you like the wraps and
the number of wraps you are warming at once.

When the wrap is warm,
add the vegetables to the center.
First, add lettuce.

Tomatoes.

Mozzarella cheese.

Add shrimp.
Fold the wrap tightly around the
shrimp and vegetables.
Do not overfill the wrap!
You have cooked enough to have another wrap,
so you don't have to put too much on your first wrap.
Besides, if you fold the wrap completely around everything,
it makes a neat and tidy little package.
.

Oh my goodness this is delicious!
Can you smell all those lovely spices?!

I'm going to eat mine.
I have plenty for you too.
When did you say you were going to be here?
I have to make sure I'm not in my pajamas
and I also want to make a delicious dessert.
Which do you want...
No Bake Banana Split Cake With Cream Cheese or
Elementary Peanut Butter Ball Chews or
Lemon Sour Cream Bundt Cake with Lemon Drizzle?

I hope it doesn't take you too long to get here
because this is not a fattening meal
and I have a healthy appetite
with very little self-control.

In a small bowl, combine all seasonings except for salt. Set aside. In a pan, add olive oil, a layer of onions, garlic, bell pepper, salt and lemons. Cook until wilted and light brown in color. Add shrimp. Sprinkle all seasonings on shrimp and combine with browned vegetables and lemons. Add cocktail sauce. Heat for about 2-3 minutes. Warm flour tortilla wrap between a dry paper towel (under the wraps) and a damp paper towel (on top of the wraps) in microwave for 30 seconds for one wrap or 2 minutes for ten wraps. Put lettuce, tomato, mozzarella cheese and shrimp mixture in the middle of the warmed tortilla fajita wrap and roll tightly..

Yield: 10 - 12 fajita wraps

There are a lot of spices, but it is quick to add a pinch of this and a pinch of that, so don't let this recipe intimidate you. Just take it step-by-step and it will turn out perfectly!
